django-preferences #django Site Framework patch

django-preferences, an excellent preferences app for Django recently updated to support Django's Site Framework. If you're like me, not using South (lazyness, etc.), here's a quick script to create the new table.

This screwed up my site for about 5 minutes. Morale of the story, READ the CHANGELOG before upgrading. Git PULL is such a bad practice for production sites update =p

RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE

1. Money cannot buy happiness but it’s more comfortable to cry in a BMW than on a bicycle
2. Forgive your enemy but remember the bastard's name
3. Help someone when they are in trouble and they will remember you.......when they're in trouble again
4. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to shoot them
5. Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then again neither does milk

Google's new image search ! (This time they mean it literally !)

Google's image search has been around for a while now, but finally, the search evolved into a "real" image search ! Yes, search by image, not just captions or words. When I saw the intro here, I couldn't help myself, but to stop everything I was doing and try it! I opened up my pictures folder, and randomly dragged a picture into the search box, walaaa, near instantaneous results. Google has done it again. Try it for yourself !

Google Chrome Canary

I got sometime, so I tried this new Google Chrome variant. Installation is a breeze, just download and follow instructions. I login my Google Account, and walaaa. All my extensions and plugins are loaded. Everything is the same, my tools, and settings.

First load, we'll have to configure some defaults. Here's something that interests me, we can now specify default pages to be open when Chrome boots.

Second, we got instant search ! Right on the omnibox.

And, you might wanna turn this off. I don't see the point, unless you want Google to track more things you do after you close your browser. I suspect this is for the web services that updates your chrome and extensions.

Okay, that's all the surprise I found for my first minute. I don't have time to play with the rest, but the options and menus are very similar to Chromium, an open source version of Google Chrome which I used with my Linux machine. And according to Paul Irish, seems like Canary also features some advance development tools that are not available to the mainstream version yet. As a web developer, this was one of the main reason for me to try Canary.

That's all folks. =)

Chinese and Malaysian education system

MCA has also accused DAP of doing "nothing for Chinese education" and that it was MCA that is the champion of Chinese schools, higher education such as TAR College and getting the Unified Examination Paper to be recognised by the federal government.

In response to the article in Malaysia Chronicle,

We still see in private colleges that most chinese school grads don't have proper command of english, compared to their friends from public and private schools. For those that made it into the local universities, have to struggle to get their B.M. on par with others, since most education there is in B.M. ?

Since we're into languages, let's ponder about this too. A growing number of "bananas", or non-chinese speaking chinese are on the rise. Why don't you fight for better chinese language classes in public schools (I assumed Indians feel the same) ?

Maybe it's the fault of the parents for "not" sending their children to tuition centers. Hmmm, points to ponder.
