The new Facebook Messaging System

About time they upgrade their messaging system. It's so ***ing hard to keeptrack of conversations in Facebook. GMail can do better, although it's primarily an email system.

Flash vs. HTML5: The “Pong” Version

Well for a web developer, anything regarding Flash and HTML5 deserves a reading. This article from Mashable, caught my with it's fancy title. It's a reminder to us that the war is still going on.
While Apple continue to drop it's support for Flash, as stated here and here, it seems that Adobe and it's Flash fans are not giving up the more than 90% mobile app sales market, dominated by Apple. Adobe continues to improve it's product support for HTML5, as seen here with a partnership with Greystrip to bring Flash Ads to iAds platform.
Google, just like Apple, have been pushing for HTML5 for sometime now. Google is also a major player in the new WebM video format, a video format project to directly oppose the Flash Video, which has been dominating the online video scene for the past decade.
Surprisingly, even Microsoft is rumored to be dropping it's Silverlight project in favor of HTML5.
Although HTML5 seems to be leading the way into the future, this statement from the article best expressed the current Flash vs HTML5 scenario :-
While we believe that HTML5 is the future, we don’t think Flash is necessarily the past, either. It still powers the vast majority of video on the web and can create beautiful web experiences that HTML5 simply can’t produce yet. If we didn’t tell you that Code Computerlove’s version of Pong was coded with two technologies, you probably would never have noticed the difference.

So, have you tried Code Computerlove's Pong yet ?

GitHub vs GoogleCode vs BitBucket

GitHub, GoogleCode, BitBucket are new generation online VCSs* or SCMs** with free source code hosting  for project developers. Why these 3 ? Cause I had some free time and I tried them today.

Google Code - Project Hosting, caught my attention when some of the software I was downloading, was using this hosting. I first get to know of GitHub through Google ads. I was googling for information on Git, a new (then) and fast version control system. Since it was written by Linus Torvalds (yea, the Linux dude), of course I had to take a look at what the fuss is about.

That's the story of the first two, so what about BitBucket ? I love GitHub (nice interface, quick, clean, social, kitchen sink !) and everything, but the Git thing is still troubling me. While I was struggling to get used to git, I caught wind of Mercurial. As usual, I did some Googling and read up about Mercurial. At first glance, they look the same to me, and after some intense Googling. I came to this summary, Git is fast, and packs smaller repository, but lacks Windows usability. Mercurial is quick and easier to learn, and they have excellent Windows support through TortoiseHg (The Mercurial cousin to TortoiseCvs and TortoiseSVN). A plugin also enables Mercurial to push/pull Git repositories.
